Beautiful weather again :-) As soon as I got up, I decided to go to Manhattan again because I already knew it should be fine weather when I visit the Cloisters!
メトロポリタン美術館に行った翌朝も快晴！天気を見てマンハッタンに行くことに決めました。クロイスターズに行く日は天気が良い日の方が良いので :-)
I took a bus to Manhattan again, 1 hour later, I'm in the city! First, go get something to eat, as usual!
Look at this big slice of pizza! This is only ¢99 !!! It means... less than 80yen!
¢99 one is simply made with tomato sauce and cheese, but it's very nice, simply :-) I put pepper seed powder and basil powder on it... yummy ;-) You can choose a slice with mashrooms or sausages... etc if you want. They are still only $1.50 each.
You can see some 99 cent pizza places in Manhattan. They are usually small places with people on a line outside. If you need something easy and quick by yourself, 99 cent pizza could be the option♪
バスに乗り１時間後、マンハッタンに到着。まずは...いつものように腹ごしらえ！
この大きな一切れ、99セントなり！ 80円しない値段でこのサイズのピザ。99セントピザはトマトソースとチーズだけのシンプルピザだけど、シンプルに旨い！ バジルやペッパーが置いてあるので好きにふりかけてさらに旨い！きのこやサラミが乗ったものでも１ドル50セント程。この99セントピザ店はマンハッタンにいくつかあり、どれも小さいお店でだいたい外に人の行列ができていたりします。私の行ったところはテイクアウトか立ち食いスタイル。小腹がすいた、サッと食べて出かけたい、という時にはちょうど良いです♪
Taking "A line" subway to north, I arrived at 190th street to visit the Cloisters, which is the branch museum of the Met.
地下鉄Aラインで終点手前の190thストリート、マンハッタンの北の端まで。エクスプレスだとすぐに着きます。各停は時間かかりそう...。
メトロポリタン美術館の分館、クロイスターズへの駅出口。
The Cloisters is located on a hill and Fort Tryon Park is surrounding the museum. Before entering the museum, I enjoyed walking in the park for a while. The last time I came here was in midwinter, so everything I saw was so... gray and it was freezing with snow. That's why I wanted to visit here in a nice weather again :-)
クロイスターズは丘の上にあり緑いっぱいの公園に囲まれています。美術館に入るまでに散歩しました。以前に一度来た時は真冬の雪の中、、、それはもう寒くて何もかもグレー。なので天気の良い日にもう一度来たかった :-)

The park was bigger than I thought, I kept walking and started wondering if I got lost. lol
I saw a lady who was walking there in her excercise wear and I asked her the direction to the museum. She was a very kind lady. She took a walk with me for a while so I can get closer to the museum. While walking in the park, we had a pleasant conversation :-) Her name is Rosa. She has moved from Russia and been here for 33 years. She said she was blessed with a good son who grew up a nice boy, finished school and is now teaching. I talked some about myself too :-) It was pretty nice to talk to her and share a good time walking under trees♪
公園が思ったよりも広く、迷って時間を使いすぎたくなかったので、通りがかりのスポーツウエアでお散歩しているおばちゃんに道を尋ねました。するとこのおばちゃんがとても親切なレディで、美術館が見えるところまで一緒に歩いてくれました。その道中楽しい会話をしながら♪おばちゃんの名はローザ、ロシアからやって来て33年。こちらで子供にも恵まれ、その息子さんは学校を卒業し今は先生をしている、と嬉しそうに教えてくれました。私の話もしました。公園を歩きながら楽しくお話して...ふとした出会い、素敵なひと時に感謝です♪

The Cloisters is designed in a style evocative of medieval architecture specifically for the display of masterpieces created during that era. Arranged roughly chronologically and featuring works primarily from Western Europe, the collection includes sculpture, stained glass, tapestries, painting, manuscript illumination, and metalwork. The extensive gardens feature medieval plantings enhancing the evocative environment.

クロイスターズは中世のスタイルの建物に同期の作品が展示されているミュージアムです。彫刻、ステンドグラス、タペストリー、手書きの絵や金属細工などを含む、主に西ヨーロッパのからの所蔵作品が年代ごとに配置されています。また当時の植物が植えられた広い庭園で、さらに中世の雰囲気を感じられる美術館です。
This museum is much smaller than the Met, but I spent 3 hours, as much time as I spent at the Met. I enjoyed the each works at the Cloisters listening to information about them on an audio guide because the Cloisters is full of my favorite, Gothic works! :-)
前日のメトロポリタンよりもずっと小さい美術館ですが、メトロポリタンと同じ３時間程度をかけてじっくり見てまわりました。大好きなゴシック様式でいっぱいの美術館なので、ここではしっかりオーディオガイドを借りて作品の説明を聞きながら♪

This museum's famous series of tapestries. This is one of them. This contains very religious meanings. For example, the unicorn means Christ and it's cought by people with arms and horns. Even small flowers and plants designed on this tapestry have each meanings. Beauty, honesty, sadness...
Watching these tapestries one by one was like reading through a picture book. It was interesting.
ここで有名な所蔵品、天井まであるぐらい大きなタペストリーのシリーズ。これはそのうちの1枚です。オーディオガイドで説明を聞くと、宗教的意味合いが色濃くデザインされたタペストリーでした。例えばユニコーンはキリストを意味する、また細かくデザインされた植物にも、それぞれ美しさ・誠実さ・悲しみなどの意味合いがあるという。すべて聖書から読み取れる宗教上の解釈ができるデザインです。タペストリーのデザインは一連のお話のようなシリーズで構成されていて、解説を聞きながら見ていると、絵本を見るようでおもしろく、また宗教的解釈も興味深いものでした。

３時間ほど美術館を堪能しました！バス停への石畳
Around 5pm at the cloister, I was waiting for a bus to midtown.
美術館を出たのは夕方５時頃。NYシティ中心まで帰りは街並みを見ながらのんびり行こうと、美術館前でバス待ち。
NYC bus. It took me more than an hour form the Cloister, the north of Manhattan to the center of Manhattan. It was a long local ride, but I was OK because I was happy with the museum and enjoyed watching the view of Manhattan passing from the bus window :-)
NYのバス。マンハッタンの北の端から中心までは１時間以上かかりました。長い各停。でも美術館で満足していたのと、街並みを楽しみながらのバス乗車で楽しく帰りました。
